CYNORA GmbH was founded in 2003 out of S. Bräse’s group as a spin-off of the technical college of Aachen.

In 2008, the company was taken over and restructured by Dr. T. Baumann (CTO) and Dr. T. Grab (CEO)  together withe Mr. Bächle (COO) at which time the registered company was relocated to Karlsruhe. From that point on, the focus of the company lies on the development of innovative materials for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Through mutual efforts of CYNORA’s diverse teams and its partners, about 100 patent registrations have been submitted, from which two fundamental patents have been granted, and has won several prizes, most recently the “Falling Walls Scientific Start-up of the Year 2013”. In April 2011, CYNORA’s research and business departments were further developed and enlarged. The company relocated from Karlsruhe KIT Hightech Inkubator to the TRIWO Technopark in Bruchsal and has since more than 1500 sq. m equipped with highly modern laboratories and working areas. CYNORA owns a broad IP portfolio with over 100 patent families and is aiming for over 600 patents.

In June 2022, Samsung aquired Cynora's intellectual property and technology but terminated its workforce as part of the transaction.
