apic.ai GmbH was founded out of Prof. W. Stork’s group in 2018 as a spin-off of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Since their well-being is inextricably connected, we consider honey bees to be bio-sensors for the state of the eco system. At apic.ai we develop an understanding of nature from the perspective of pollinators, based on insights, won by the monitoring of bee hives. The data collected allows us to extract information which is suitable to serve as an objective, data driven assessment system of the surrounding environment.
- Evaluation of the effectiveness of planting and conservation measures in cities as well as
assessment of the threats posed by building activities and environmental pollutants.
- Assessment of the suitability of agriculturally used areas to provide sufficient food and
natural habitat for insects and thereby secure and improve their pollination activities.
With the help of this tool, necessities for action for specific areas and seasons can be indicated. It allows us to derive recommendations for precise improvement measures.
